Frequently Asked Questions
WHAT DO I NEED TO WEAR AND BRING?
As we work mostly outdoors, we recommend wearing clothing appropriate to the weather conditions on the day and encourage wearing or bringing layers to accommodate for changing weather conditions. For example, a hat and lightweight clothes in the warmer months, and a rain jacket/warm coat in the colder months (or anytime rain may be expected). Enclosed, sturdy shoes are recommended all year round as we will generally be outdoors and often in the company of animals!
Participants are responsible for bringing (and administering) any required medications, any equipment that may be required and any other essential items.
DO i need to be experienced with horses?
No. There is no expectation for participants to be experienced with horses! The horses support individual learning and therapeutic journeys regardless of previous experience. All participants will receive guidance around interacting safely with the horses.
do you provide horse riding lessons?
Both Equine Assisted Developmental Education and Equine Assisted Learning services support clients with specific therapeutic and learning goals (respectively). While some sessions may involve interacting safely with horses in more direct ways, such as leading or grooming, these are NOT horse riding or horsemanship lessons.
We do not currently offer any mounted/ridden sessions with our herd. We can suggest contacting an experienced horse riding instructor or Riding for the Disabled if this is what you are seeking.
what if i’m scared of horses?
We are skilled in providing sessions tailored to individual clients’ needs, supporting them to remain within their window of tolerance (what feels manageable).
what ages do you work with?
We work with all people, across the lifespan.
